Grad Student on a Budget Restaurant advice in Chicago

pcerepak | Mar 5, 201510:38 AM

For the next few days I am going to be filtering through previous posts on restaurants in the Chicago area but just thought I would leave this post in case I get some suggestions that I might not have gotten from reading.

I live in Madison and will be traveling to Chicago March 26th - March 29th for a conference and also to meet up with my girlfriend for our one year anniversary. We do not live in the same state and so I would like to make this trip special and fun. I do not mind spending money on good food if it is indeed good. I live on a monthly stipend but will be frugal with my money so i can afford this trip.

We will be staying at the Warwick Hotel in Chicago (700 N. Michigan Ave. Close to the conference). I have a car and am not stuck with only downtown options. Also I am familiar with the transit system there but have not done it in like 3 years.

Any help or suggestions for the following or what are your favorites for each:

1.Korean BBQ (Hopefully all you can eat)
2. Dim Sum (somewhere that is cart service. I really only like char sui and chicken feet, but she loves it all. (probably go on sunday)
3. Ramen joint (might do this for saturday dinner)
4. pho (lunch option)
5. brunch option
6. Banh mi (lunch option)
7. Filipino food (maybe somewhere that has great sisig? or lechon manok like andok's? i doubt i will find that.)

8. Somewhere for our anniversary. This is the tricky one. She loves seafood: oysters, mussels, crawfish, etc. so maybe best seafood place. I don't really want to do japanese. What is your most favorite restaurant for this option. Pasta or italian would also be great. something to mix it up a bit since the other places we will be going are mostly asian cuisine. also, we will be going out on friday or saturday evening).

Thanks for any recommendations!
