Gotta Chelsea Rec?

One of my best friends is flying in from San Francisco next week for a few days to move another friend back out there and he's staying in Chelsea. I'm meeting him and his friend for dinner and would like to treat them to a nice meal, but not one that will completely break the bank (i.e.; not Del Posto LOL). He's feeling kind of weird about letting me take him and his friend to dinner so I don't want to be excessive and make them uncomfortable. But, truth be told he has little money, and nothing would please me more than to be be able to treat him.

First, we'd like to stick to Chelsea, just for convenience sake since his friend is in the middle of packing. Plus, I don't work far from the neighborhood so that works fine for all of us.

Someplace not crazy loud would be great since we haven't seen each other in person in about 5-6 years and we're huge talkers. Someplace where we'll be welcome to sit for a long time is essential.

I think keeping away from anything very ethnic is a good idea, since he's HIV+ and I remember from the last couple of times we were together that food sometimes becomes an issue if it's too spicy - I'll refrain from TMI but you get the point. So, something basically new american would be great.

I already made a reservation at The Red Cat, as it popped into mind but I'm wondering if it's a tad too much $? Any other suggestions for something similar?

Thanks as always!
