this sushi bar recommended by chef mike is pretty good. it's the weirdest sushi bar i've ever been to. it look's like a video store, w/ i think japanese videos from the outside, crossed with a fish market complete w/ a scale, but once you walk in to the left of the small store is the actual sushi bar. and it is a pretty good sushi bar. the specials sound like they mean business, but the chef does have a sense of humor too what with the "stupid roll" and the "ganja" (does ganja mean something different in japanese or is the chef just making a joke). anyways, there's hamachi, tuna, some great toro topped with a small dollop of caviar, kampachi, amaebi, sweet shrimp w/ the heads fried or grilled, a special grilled toro, a few salads, the nozawa-style blue crab hand rolls although these ones are slicked with a bit of olive oil. everything is pretty good here in general, the hamachi though was a little lacking. it's around nozawa prices. not exactly cheap for such a downscale looking place. the outside is marked with a sign that just says "sushi" so there's no name on the sign. if you're in these parts, definitely try it out. oh, and they also have the rolls stuff, like philly rolls and spider rolls, i think, but i didn't try that stuff.
