Good yoshoku (Japanese-run) - what's left in Vancouver ?

LotusRapper | May 4, 201504:49 PM

There used to be a good half dozen, or more even, until about 3-4 years ago when they started dropping off the landscape (maybe the owners gone off to start up ramen-yas ?)

I know this is not an exclusive genre per se as many Japanese restaurants offer a handful of yoshoku dishes on their menus.

I've only been to Cafe de l’Orangerie, 29th Ave Cafe, Yoshoku-ya, Clubhouse Sushi, Hi Genki and Hachibei. Of those, only Clubhouse, Hi Genki, Hachibei and l’Orangerie are still around. I'm sure there are several others in GVRD, including the new Hikari Cafe as mentioned in the adjacent thread in this forum:

And within the yoshoku spectrum, I'm really only interested in the curries, hayashi, hamburger/salsbury steaks and maybe a good korokke. Omurice would be desirable if done uniquely but that's something anyone can make at home. But a good okonomiyaki would be great (Clubhouse Sushi has it) but that's not a yoshoku AFAIK.

Hi Genki Restaurant,
Hachibei,
Hikari Cafe
