My co-worker and I ended up going for lunch today. It is in a strip mall kitty corner across Arroyo Parkway from the Trader Joe's. It is a bright restaurant with some tables, one wall has all mirrors and the facing wall has a mural of the mediterranean countryside and it was very clean.
Only one other customer (it was around 1:30) was in the place. I asked him what he ordered and it was the Chicken Kebob Wrap (marinated chicky with tomatoes, lettuce, onions & parsley) $4.50 which he said was very good.
Barry and I both ordered the Beef Lula Wrap (fresh ground beef mixed w/spices, tomatoes, lettuce, onions & parsley) $4.50. We also got an order of the Beurek (cheese turnovers) 3 for $3.
We used the coupon from the Vons receipt and it came to $8 something.
They gave us free Tabouli which was pretty good - very lemony and fresh tasting.
Service was wonderful - you order at the counter, and they bring the food to your table. They ask how you are doing, is this your first time, is there anything they can help you with, how you heard about them, etc. Owner was there and I believe his mom (?) and another worker. They were very generous with their pickles and peppers when I asked for more.
The Beurek were really good - I think next time I will ask them if they can warm them a little bit for me.
Before our wraps came out, I was looking at the to-go menu they have and noticed that they have a Gyros Wrap which was not on the wall menu. I asked if they would be able to change mine (if they had not started making it yet) and they did not have a problem with it (I had been craving Gyros for a few weeks). Be sure to check the to go menu for additional items that have yet to be added to the wall menu.
Both wraps were delicious. DELICIOUS, I say. Great service, good, inexpensive food - what more can you ask for?? When we left, the mom (?) gave us free Baklava (they call them Paklava) $1.75 for 2 pieces, which she makes from scratch. She also makes the Beurek from scratch.
All in all, a really great experience and we will definitely be back!!
They have Babaganoush, Grape Leaves, Lebni (pasteurized kefir cheese w/dry mint, red pepper & olive oil), Fasulia (Italian cut green beans sauteed w/tomatoes, garlic, onions & bell pepper), Hummus, Kufte, greek salads, kidney bean salad, falafel, veggie wrap and combo, roasted chicken, chicken and beef kebabs (both come in lula as well), various plates, etc. Great menu, most expensive item is the Lamb Chops Plate at $9.75
