Good Szechuan in SD

On my way through town, I had to stop at Ba Ren because if it pleased Kirk it had to be pretty good. I only got to eat a few things, but I was impressed. The three treasure rice crisp was outstanding. Not only did it come with perfectly sliced, tender sea cucumber (instead of ubiquitous shrimp), but the chicken was melt in your mouth and the squid offered another interesting texture. Throughout, the dish presented a wonderful array of textures, tastes, and colors--crunchy black fungus, bamboo shoots, mushrooms, and the rice crisps that evolve in texture as one eats the dish. And, unlike any other I've ever had (not that I am any expert on Szechuan food) this version has a peppery sauce, not from chilies, but perhaps from regular white pepper(?). Likewise the husband and wife was different and peppery--this time from szechuan peppers that left my lips and tongue tingling. The cucumber in ginger sauce was OK, but nothing special. Anyway, this is definitely a place to go if you are looking for interesting and unusual Chinese food.
