I found Uncle Vanya's today -- it is on 315 W. 54th St, between 8th and 9th. Seems like a fine place to me -- everything I had was very tasty and satisfying. Specifically: brown bread came before the meal, it had a thick, molassesy flavor and maybe some mashed potatoes in the dough giving rise to a thick, chewy crumb. Hot borshch -- it is served hot or cold -- was rich and delicious, very oniony. Little dumplings filled with ground beef -- I forgot the name of the dish -- topped everything off very well. Anyone have more experience with this place? I could definitely see going back there.
