I just finished reading the LA Times piece on the popularity of $10+ martinis. A couple of months ago I went to Lutece at the Venetian in Las Vegas and paid $18 for a Sky martini. The article links rising prices to premium brand liquor, yet I find that price differences are very little between premium and bar liquors.
Are there any fun places left with good food that still charge reasonable prices for drinks?
As a side, Lutece was beautiful and fashionable with excellent service and good food. Food type is toward the trend of robust flavor meats and fish. Items are full bodied but not big enough to be "heavy". It has been a while since my visit so I can't remember exactly what I had. Prepare for a big tab. Two people w/ 2 apps,. 2 main courses, 1 dessert, 1 coffee, 2 mixed drinks and 1 bottle and tip = $250.
Wine list is extensive but prices start around the $100 range so we didn't try any.
