A friend has asked me to organize a dinner on his behalf (he lives in Washington, DC) for 20 people on July 3. He is getting married that weekend and is looking for a casual place to have dinner with friends coming in from out of town.
The guidelines he has given me are quite loose. He would like to keep costs down to around $50 per person, BYO is a plus though it is not essential, is flexible on cuisine, wants it to be in a location convenient for going out after dinner, and is looking for good food in an environment where we could have fun. Here are some things we have discussed:
ViceVersa - excellent food, allow BYO, cost would be close to $50 per head, not sure if they can seat 20 people at 1-2 large tables.
Chinese Banquet - any thoughts on venues? I thought it would be fun to do a multi course meal at a place where we could reserve a couple of large round tables.
Gabrielas - my friend suggested this. Cheap, good food, disadvantages are that I think it would be tough to get seating for 20 and they would be looking to turn the table quickly and we would want the meal to last at least a couple of hours.
Carmines - clearly they can accomodate a group of this size, however we think that it is too noisy.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
