Found a really good (inexpensive) bread...

I just wanted to share one of my recent "finds" - a very good white loaf for $1.99 - not too hard, not too soft, very good-looking and as full of fermented, developed flavor as any homemade 24-hour-rise Bittman's loaf.

It's at Shopper's on the carts in the local bakery area, not the mass-market bakery aisle which is usually elsewhere. It's not in the (faux) upscale display of "Ecce Panis" brand breads (though they are pretty good), it's on the "no-name" cart in a brown paper bag marked "Italian Bread", the lowest-priced item there at $1.99. I could eat it all day with just butter, it's that good.

Overall, I think Shopper's bakery beats Giant's and is far far better than Safeway's.
