Really Good Dinner in Fishkill

Had to buy a fancy mattress for my partner's poor back and that brought us to Fishkill, NY - to a factory/showroom place. (We live in Queens.) Took my mom and her new hip out for a spin, too.

Asked for a rec. for dinner and was told to go south on Rte. 9 to Rte. 52 and make a right. A couple of blocks in is a place called the North Street Grill.

It was a very nice meal. It's a really old building (about 200 yrs old) and the atmosphere is romantic/cozy/casual. The bar seems like a nice place to have a drink, too.

We had: Black bean soup (very good) and a really nice quesadilla with rock shrimp and sausage. I had filet mignon which was good, partner had baby back ribs which were good (not too saucy), and mom had the real winner - a chicken bracciole: chicken cutlet wrapped around yummy stuff including roasted peppers and in an herbed breading (very light) - it was really tasty. The veggies which came with the entrees were great - a pedestrian mix of zucch/carrots/brocc but with a nice garlicky touch (and not overcooked!!), the mashed potatoes, just OK. Coffee was very good and we all shared a piece of cheesecake and a pecan pie tart w/vanilla ice cream - both good and I am picky about cheesecake.

The bill for this (2 apps, 3 entrees, 2 glasses of wine, 2 desserts) was around $90 for the three of us - incl. tax, not tip. The service was excellent.

They won an award from a Hudson Valley food magazine - best casual dining, I think.

If you need a place near Fishkill near Rte. 9 (it is very close to where I-84 crosses Rte. 9 - just a bit north on 9 and a left onto Rte. 52) this is a good one!
