I've heard a number of chowhounds totally trash the more popular franchises, during the last year or so that I've been lurking and posting. Most of this criticism is probably right on the money, but even a chain should be able to get it right once in a while. Yah, in an ideal world, I probably wouldn't bother with these places, but my friends and family like them, and I can't afford to eat at the best places every time out.
What are some of you favorite chains in the SE PA area? I'll start with my list. Here are a few at which I've had good (maybe not great) chow experiences lately:
1) Texas Road House -- they make a good steak (especially ribeye) and excellent fries. Everyone loves those rolls.
2) Fuddruckers -- Usually an awesome burger with a variety of fresh condiments. Given the volume, you might get an overcooked clunker (never happened to me), but I imagine thay would replace it.
3) Chili's -- Seem to be consistently good, especially on sammiches and appetizers. A clean place with great service - at least in Reading.
