Golubtsy @ Polkan Café, SF

Two golubtsy – beef and rice in cabbage leaf – for $4.29 made a surprisingly light lunch. While microwaved to reheat, the stuffed cabbage rolls had a sweet, fresh taste without any telltale leftover cabbage or stale refrigerator smell. The beef filling had a coarse, firm texture with a bit of dill. The pair of rolls were bathed in a jammy tomato sauce and garnished with some thick sour cream with small sweet peppers and slices of cucumber on the side.
