Gnocchi at Dedo

Dax | Sep 2, 2004 10:09 AM

Stopped in around 9:30 for a quick bite as I was semi-hungry but only wanted an appetizer and a glass of wine.

Actually I had walked over to Masa to sit outside and read while eating a round of the $1 tapas and a small pitcher of sangria. The waiter who told me I could sit in any of the 3 tables said he'd be back with menus. The place was dead but I only waited about 10 or so minutes and when he hadn't returned I headed to Dedo instead.

Had a $7 glass of pinot noir, great but a bit warm, and an order of the potato gnocchi with pine nuts, shaved parmesan and served on a bed of ... liquefied spinach, garlic and oil I think ($10, about a 1/2 order as compared with say Sage's main order). The gnocchi themselves were fanfreakingtastic. Light and fluffy, sort of small, and well accompanied by the nuts and shaved cheese. The green underlying sauce was interesting, but I didn't think it added much to the dish. Note, I don't think the dish needed anything aside from the pasta, cheese and nuts.

They were still serving from the August menu. The very cordial bartender served me and was quite informative when I asked more about the menu changes and seasonality of the menus. And did I mention she was very cute too? I digress. She said they'll probably keep the menu for the remainder of this week but she isn't sure about whether the gnocchi will stay. I can't decide if I want to go back tonight for more, or maybe tomorrow.

Also noted a $19 hangar steak and fries on the menu. Maybe I'll skip lunch tomorrow and return for that with a gnocchi app.
