My Gloppy Mess at Pizza DOC

YourPalWill | May 2, 2003 12:34 PM

I recently made my first visit to the much heralded Pizza DOC on Lawrence. I was really looking forward to it as a great lover of thin crust pizza and based upon the accolades that DOC has received here.

While, I'm certainly willing to give DOC another chance or two, my first visit didn't make a very favorable impression.

I love the simplicity of Pizza Magherita. The fresh flavors, thin crisp crust accented with a smattering of fresh Mozzarella and basil are what great Pizza is all about in my book.

When the Pizza arrived, it was obvious that the Pizza maker had been way to heavy handed with the garden variety store bought mozzarella that simply smothered the top of my pie. The result was a limp, wet crust that only left itself open to being eaten with a knife and fork.

I will note that the sauce was excellent and the portions of the crust that escaped the avalanche of cheese were crispy and light.

Maybe i caught DOC on a bad night. I'm certainly willing to givce it another try to find out.
