My business partner and her husband took my wife and I to Globe, (what used to be 72 Market St.) in Venice for dinner on Saturday. They have been a couple of times before and liked it.
The interior hasn't changed much, if at all, from its days as 72 Market. Since the weather has warmed up I was glad to think that they have valet parking, (glad for valet parking is not an oxymoron down by the beach on a warm evening), but no valet stand now. Just a sign pointing around the corner to a lot in back. Then the lot guy said, "no room, big party being hosted/cooked for by the Globe chef across the street from the restaurant...look for street parking." Yeah, right.
So we parked in a little lot close by that is one where you stick the money, ($10) through a little metal slot for the space you are in. Of course my first $10 went in the wrong space. As my partner is laughing and saying "$20 bucks into your free dinner, where will it all end" and I am threatening her with a spanking...all in good fun.
The food is not bad here, and in fact the roasted chicken that my partner had was really quite good. The Neiman Ranch pork chop that her husband and I both had was also quite nice. My wife went for the spaghetti Bolognese...which she liked, but said was a little salty. My salad with lardons and poached eggs was really good, and my wife had the smoked salmon appetizer, which she thought was excellent.
All in all I would give the food a solid B. Service started out fine, but when the waitress realized we were not getting much in the way of alcohol she dissapeared after she delivered the main courses and my partners husband had to get up and track her down in order to get the check.
I would go back, but when the weather is colder so I can street parking, or at least make sure there is no party taking up their regular lot.
