Gentlemens Relish (Patum Peparium)

Living under the same roof with two other Patum P aficionados, I have tried periodically to come up with a recipe that comes near the original. Attempts run toward a combo of anchovies, nutmeg, unsalted butter, (breadcrumbs? tamarind? mace?) . . and then I get lost. Questions: Has anyone else attempted to replicate Patum P? Does anyone know of a relatively inexpensive American source?
