Gelateria (North End) open

Was walking through the North End today after a slice at Ernesto's (one of my favorites, though I haven't seen much about it here).

Anyway, did a double take as I walked down Hanover, near Parmenter. The new gelateria discussed a couple days ago looked open. (And yes, Gelateria appears to be its full name.) It's a surprisingly nice space, with plenty of blonde wood and chrome accents, 3 or 4 4-top tables and I _think_ a couple booths toward the back of the room... didn't really look back there.

They do have a wide selection of flavors. Tried the chocolate and tiramisu (both very tasty) and, at the suggestion of a staff member, something that sounded like zuppa inglese, though I can't be sure. Whatever it was, it seemed a mash-up of different flavors, and it didn't really appeal to me very much.

Went with a cup, half pistachio and half hazelnut (I know, an odd combination, but I was in the mood), for $3.75. Very nice, not overwhelming, flavors. The texture wasn't quite as smooth as I like my gelato, but then, I don't claim to be any sort of expert.

I was there around 2:30, and I think I was the only one in the place who wasn't a friend or family of the staff. Nonetheless, they were extremely pleasant, and made me feel at home. Spoke to them a little bit before leaving, and they said they've been doing pretty good business for their first day. Plan to be open 10 AM to midnight 7 days a week.

I hope they do well. I'll certainly be back to try some other flavors.
