Garlic eau de vie - the most horrifying drink in the world?

Robb Satterwhite | Sep 12, 2003 07:59 AM

So I was at this place in Amsterdam called the Garlic Queen, and on the dessert menu - along with the garlic chocolates and garlic ice cream - they listed something called garlic eau de vie, so of course I had to try it. It had a very intense garlic aroma, and an unpleasantly strong garlicky taste. (Our waiter claimed that some people love it...) I don't mind eating roasted garlic all by itself as an appetizer, but this experience convinced me that it should never, ever be used in a beverage.

(The rest of the menu at Garlic Queen is pretty average - everything is pleasantly garlicky, but the cooking could be a lot better. The walls are covered with photos of Dutch queens.)
