I am a huge fan of Sushi of Gari on the UES. I took my mother to the new west side edition for her birthday and was totally disappointed. Their "off the menu chef's omakase" that they serve on the east side is totally different from the west side location. On the east side you can specify what you like, what you don't, and it keeps coming until you say stop. The west side menu is already predetermined and was definitely not worth the price tag. The wait staff even admitted to me that the east side location was more expensive. Dinner for 2 was unsatisfying and close to $200. (one $14 bottle of sake). Didn't try any of their entrees, which were written up as being creative fusion-ish, but if you want Gari sushi, go to the east side.
