At what point do taste buds process the strange, deliciousness of "funky" tasting foods from "funky"--to "funny"--as in..."spoiled."
I love funky flavors--fermented and aged--beef, bean curd pastes, etc. But sometimes, I am torn between marveling at the weird, yet addictive taste of a dish--and wondering if it's possibly gone over the edge. (Spoilage in some classes of food ;i.e. dairy, is immediately--and obnoxiously--identifiable.) But once in awhile I wonder if my love of some funky preparation is taking my stomach places I'd rather not go!
I do know I'm always going to try new food combinations--so I guess I have to trust my instincts. But sometimes, there's a rather fine line between funky and funny.
