I have been racking my brain trying to think of a fun spot to take my boyfriend to dinner for his birthday. We have always taken each other out to fancy-ish gourmet meals i.e. Gramercy Tavern, Del Posto, etc. This year, I was thinking of doing something more fun but still a bit upscale in terms of food quality.
My initial thought was DBGB since he really loves sausage and beer and I know that's right up his alley, but the reviews don't seem to be too promising. Thoughts?
My other thoughts were Degustation or Aldea. Has anyone tried the $75 tasting menu at Aldea?
Overall, I do like the idea of a tasting menu and price doesn't matter. I want it to feel like a "special occassion" place but not be too white tablecloth fancy meal. He is a more casual guy, albeit a foodie like myself. I can do anywhere from $100-$200 pp on food. I am willing to go anywhere in Manhattan. Favorites of ours are Babbo, Scarpetta, Keens, Little Giant, and Resto.
PS I also would love to do Momofuku Ko but I'd like to have a reservation set for elsewhere in case I can't get in there.
