Fun Inauthentic Sushi

Jim Leff | Aug 4, 2005 10:36 PM

My first decade of sushi eating was entirely confined to serious, austere, authentic sushi. So I was a relative newcomer to whimsical Americanized sushi (which I discovered, strangely enough, in Canada), and the style slays me when done right. Give me dabs of sauces, give me crunchy things and way too many ingredients vying for my attention. I LOVE this stuff.

The problem is, I'm very picky about where I eat my sushi. Raw fish isn't something I'd trust to eat just anywhere (yes, I know it's frozen, but I've seen reports of problems, and would rather not debate the issue).

So can anyone recommend places with fun, interesting, not-too-expensive but reasonably caring and meticulous venues for fun, inauthentic sushi that's seriously delicious?

ciao
