I really love fruit tarts and got hooked on them in Boston at Star Market, of all places. I've tried the ones at the Champagne French Bakery Cafe in the fka Crystal Court (ok), the Italian espresso bar at South Coast Plaza, next to Armani Exchange (quite good), Vie de France (yuck! canned pears??), and Pascal Epicerie (very good, except that the crust is fairly soggy by noon and the price is outrageous). Any thoughts? I'm looking for a crisp crust (although not overly crisp), fresh fruit, and a tasty pastry cream. A layer of chocolate between the crust and pastry cream will not be frowned upon.
