Fruit Island - Italian Yogurt ? No Thanks!

CZ 101 | Nov 13, 2007 01:25 PM

I guess that I just have to rant a little about the never ending topic of the frozen “Italian” yogurt.
I’m a huge fan of Ce fiore and Pinkberry does not offend my taste buds.
So today during my lunch break I opted to stop by the Fruit Island which claims by its huge storefront signs of being a unique “Italian Yogurt” and mentioned a list of several health benefits from eating it; which made me chuckle a bit since it felt like a new wonder drug promotion.
Never the less I entered the empty shop and realized that it is a self serve chain and continued to fill a small cup of the “original flavor” into my cup – the yogurt substance felt more thick than most. Then I went to add some toppings from the bar and they just looked like washed up frozen fruits only 4 varieties (pineapple, mango, strawberry and kiwi)
I got all but the pineapple and indeed they were frozen and it made me get nostalgic about Ce fiores’ fresh blueberries and raspberries.
The only item that saved the bar was the bitter chocolate chips.
So I proceeded to put my cup on the weight and lord behold my total came to over $5.00 – what, what, what. What?!?
So I paid and asked for my lid since I was taking it back to the office and with a nonchalant response I was told that there were no lids provided.
So as for the actual taste-it resembled the usual suspects and it seemed way too frozen. Not a fan of frozen fruit so that left me with a $5.00 up of bitter choco chips to enjoy.
I chuckled yet again and realized that I should for once just stick to what I know and like and stop trying to participate in the yogurt wars.
The end.
