Help me frost my birthday cake

maestra | Apr 5, 202011:11 PM

Quarantine has me working a little outside my usual box. It's my birthday, and I decided to find a chocolate cake recipe that would use self-rising flour instead of my precious AP. I found this, and it's very good: https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1...

It's not, however, a cake that will work as a layer cake - it wouldn't hold up structurally and is too rich. I baked 2 9-inch cakes instead of one, so I'm looking for two creative ideas for frosting. I've got some favorites, sure, but I'd like to hear your ideas. I'm thinking fluffy and not very sweet. Or maybe one fluffy and one unique glaze? I have heavy cream, granulated sugar, dark brown sugar, powdered sugar, mascarpone, a little bit of dark chocolate, corn syrup, milk, decent strawberries, raspberry jam, about 2 oz. of creamed cheese, all the spices, and probably whatever else your recommendation might require. The whipped cream-mascarpone recommendation on the web site is a good start, but what interesting frosting do you love?
