Frisco Fish & Chips ($5) – Just call it San Francisco-licious

... and the fish tacos are $2.

Charlie T gave a heads up about this new fish & chips store in North Beach.

Of course I forget the address. I drive all over North Beach, barely missing tourists as I scan for a fish and chips sign. I don’t see it anywhere. I figure it is not meant to be. I decide to do a taste off between Nicky’s Pizza and Golden Boy instead.

I’m about to leap back in my double-parked car with my Golden Boy slice when a ‘grand opening’ sign catches my eye … yep... right next door to Golden Boy … Frisco Fish.

I figured the food gods were sending me a message, so I left the car in the street and dashed in for fish and chips.

The Icelandic cod is excellent with a nice thin crisp batter that has just enough oil to up the taste without being greasy. Perfect, top-grade tartar sauce. Nice fresh-cut fries that are kind of thick, flat and rectangular. Think Pez dispenser, but not as thick. Packets of malt vinegar and lemon juice were also in the bag.

Highly recommended. A great price for good food. For some reason, hard to spot. Lots of tables to eat the fish.

Charlie T has more details and a better description of the fish & fries in this link that includes the entire menu. Hmmm … Charlie T … would that be THE Charlie T of Star-Kist fame?
