Fried Chicken Secrets

What's your secret to great making great Southern fried chicken? (Well, perhaps it's not a secret if you'll reveal it.)

I'd like your veteran wisdom and guidance for a great crispy skin, cooking in a skillet vs. deep frying, soaking overnight in buttermilk, using flour, bread crumbs, or cereal, and any other relevant considerations.
