Fri night dinner with Bay Area guests

Looking for an interesting place to take visiting cousins from the Bay Area. They are very good home cooks. Would like to show them something unique to Chicago, and want to stay far away from things that they get back home (especially Asian/Mexican/California cuisine). Ideally, want a place where we can get a reservation on a early Fri night (they are coming in 2 months), not so loud that we can't talk, and not stuffy/fancy. No expensive, long tasting menus. Fair price is appreciated. But food should be excellent.

They will be staying downtown, not far from Water Tower. I was thinking West Loop or River North, as some of us will be driving in from West suburbs and Logan Square. Ugh... parking...
