Fresno - Downtown dining refs

PolarBear | Jan 10, 2005 08:07 PM

Came across a couple of links from the Downtown Association today while trying to help a poster find some soul food in Fresno.

Hopefully, these will be helpful for folks needing quick access to locations and phone nos. while in the area.

The first has a map that labels the "sections" of the downtown area and establishments in the general vicinity of each. The second lists the restaurants by type of cuisine.

Several months ago the City announced a trolley service that runs 11:30-1:30, M-F, from the downtown area to the Tower District, so far I've been unable to find details on the City's website nor have I been able to find a complete list of Tower restaurants, which are not included in the above links.

In the Chinatown section one great place is missing:

Chris' Meat Mkt.
1323 Kern St

Long lines at lunch for their superb tacos, burgers and ham & cheese torta (order "torta, ham & cheese" not vice versa)

Another in Chinatown that used to get rave reviews is the Paris Cafe, anyone been?

Central Fish is a favorite for sushi and other Japanese lunch specialties

Convention Center - George's, Mediterranean Grill and Upstairs/Downtown (dinner only)

Fulton Mall - Club One (heard a good review or two), Coney Island (used to be the spot for chili-dogs, haven't been in years), Miss Ashley's (RIP, see previous post on soul food)

The Tower District, just a couple of miles north, is loaded with other great dining choices, so even if the trolley isn't running it's a short trip there and back.
