fresh, SLICED bread?

barenakedlizzie | Feb 4, 201111:39 PM

this one is a bit embarassing to ask. I do not have a proper bread knife (it's on my wish list!), and feel absolutely awful about trying to slice a loaf of fresh bread using my "all-purpose" kitchen knife. I am so afraid of slicing a finger off, and the cuts are never toaster-appropriate. so...

is it appropriate to ask a local bakery to slice your bread (be it sourdough or brioche) for you? I live nearest to La Farine in Noble Square and love getting a fresh loaf from them for dinner/brunch the afternoon/morning before the meal.
