fresh sauerkraut

a friend of mine is ISO uncooked sauerkraut--the kind made basically just with salt. No vinegar, no cooking process...he says it should be kind of chunky. He's here from New Zealand for a few weeks (not that he can get it there...he just fondly remembers getting it HERE) and is desperately searching...has been to LES and the 2nd avenue deli to no avail. suggestions?
