French Laundry- they can call and cancel our reservation? Twice?

tokyoastrogirl | Oct 2, 200209:25 PM     6

Just wanted to try and clear something up. My mother and father in-law had made reservations quite some time ago for a date in October to celebrate their 47th wedding anniversary. Apparently the restaurant called and moved their reservation, which they accepted. Then the restaurant called again and asked to move or cancel the reservation due to a larger party making a reservation. They had a gift certificate but were so annoyed that they asked to cash it in. I can't be certain if there was a miscommunication, but does this happen often? I realize that The French Laundry is difficult to get a table at, but it just seems extreme to cancel on two people who have made reservations twice. I'm just trying to find out if this has happened to anyone else before.....
Thanks.
