Can you freeze basil leaves?

Christina D | Oct 10, 2005 02:58 PM

The weather here has finally gotten cool enough that I needed to harvest all of my basil. I now have a dining room FULL of basil that needs to be addressed. Of couse I'm going to make pesto for the freezer, as well as basil oil and basil butter. I was wondering, though, how the leaves would fare if I tried to freeze them. I was thinking about putting them individually on a cookie sheet, freezing, then storing in bags.

Anyone have any experience with frozen basil (or any other interesting ideas for winterizing the herb)?
