After searching the boards, I have found a few entries relating to Floridita, but nothing that adequately (in my view) expounds on how cool this place is. I used to live quite close, and would head there in the AM for the fantastic cafe con leche. Now I always plan a stop on my way to uptown fairway. Its on the west side of broadway below the 125th st 1/9, just past the kentucky friend chicken. (its actually between 125th, and 129th, as the streets converge there.) The breakfast special (eggs, home fries, bread, bacon) is about 3 bucks (i gained about 20 pounds eating it every day for 6 months). All the assorted latin food is delicious. The cubanos are my favorite, with pickles, cheese, garlic sauce, pork, and ham. The bread is baked at a bakery attached to the main restaurant. The place is big, clean, and well-lit. It has a long lunch counter, tons of tables, and is always full with an assortment of locals. Its rare you find a latin cab driver in manhattan who doesnt know about the place or eat there regularly. The cops from the local precinct across the street seem to find excuses to come in and eat. If you sit at the counter your coffee will sometimes arrive in a paper cup- so request the regular mug. Fried plantains are delicious, the specials are great, and I suggest trying the fresh orange juice shake (its a bit pricey at $3.50(?), considering the food it accompanies is usually around 3-5 as well.) I hope this isn't old news to you regular chowhounds, but as a newbie, I had to get this out to any who might have missed it in the past. BTW- there is another floridita on 150th or so and b-way. The two are not related, except by name (or so I've been told.) I prefer the atmosphere, and the food, at the 125th version. Breakfast, lunch, dinner. This place is legit.
