I was a guest at a gigantic Lithuanian wedding held not long ago at a banquet hall in a far-flung south west suburb. Since I was early to the reception, I drove around to check out the environs--a part of Chicago I rarely get to. I passed a place called the Flame in Countryside, which had a nice 60s or 70s supper club look to it. As it was around dinner time, there was a fairly sizeable cavalcade of Caddies and Lincolns pulling into and parked around the restaurant. From these outward appearances, it looked promising....I thought I might be able to duck in and down a quick martini before I was due at the banquet hall, figuring by the looks of the place and the crowd that the cocktail would be in some huge country club-size tumbler. Alas, there was no time to check it out, and off I went to the reception and dinner at the banquet hall (colorful side note: two wedding parties were going on at the same time, and I caught a glimpse of the bride from the other group outside the hall smoking a Marlboro Light in a strapless gown that exposed a dramatic tattoo covering her entire left shoulder blade).
Has anyone actually been inside the Flame and had a meal?
