Fish sauce; Cock brand

galleygirl | Apr 13, 2005 10:43 AM

A few months ago, in a "best fish sauce' discussion, I mentioned my favorite, Cock brand, from Thailand, and a few people agreed...Last time in the market, the brand was out, and I bought a substitute (tho still good, I thought; additive free)...Well, my favorite was back yesterday, and I brought it over to the BF's house to make pad Thai for him and his daughter, a special treat for her, because as a totally non-adventurous eater, she adores my pad Thai.

Well, Cock brand got the *biggest* accolade I could imagine from her. After comparing and contrasting the pad Thai to the last effort (a little exercise I have been known to force my diners to do), his daughter said, "This one is better than last time, it's like, I dunno, less fishy"...

This stuff is great; so smooth and rich, you can actually taste it straight, and not recoil. It's about $1.29 in Boston, as compared to $3 for Three Crabs...I have NO IDEA why Three Crabs gets the play it does, it contains high fructose corn syrup, and hydrolized vegatable protein, among other things. Cock is "anchovies, salt, sugar"...There. Go and get it.
