Fish for the pilgrims

In Luxembourg city this week, the ancient celebration of Octav is occuring. Pilgrims walk to masses at the cathedral, and then enjoy fish in special stalls set up in one of the main squares.

The fish (I am not sure of the species) are lightly battered, deep fried whole, and served on a large platter with lemon and a remoulade sauce. The flesh is mild, and tender.

All sorts of other treats including beignet, (little fried donut things) with apples and rum are also served.

This practice dates back over 400 years, and is quite the festival.

peace, jill
