Fish markets in SF

Pointybird | Jan 28, 2002 04:38 PM

I find it exceedingly ironic that since moving to SF, a coastal town with a fine seafood reputation, I can't find a good fish market! My old home in Florida's backwater was loaded with amazing places -- here I find that fish markets are both expensive AND not very attentive to the freshness of their product.

I find great fish in Stockton Street markets in Chinatown but I'm intimidated by the live fish. If you order one, is it cleaned for you? Also, Chinatown is a bit out of the way for me. Does anyone know a market with decent prices and product closer to the Hayes Valley/Castro area?
