In March 2016, I grabbed a light dinner at Fish Face Poke Bar after a day of meetings in Sacramento. More recently, I recommended it to a friend who found it as excellent as I did. So, I'm putting up this late post to encourage 'hounds to give it a try.
Fish Face is on the ground floor of the Warehouse Artist Lofts Public Market. It sports some of its own art.
At the time I was there, Fish Face offered kukui nut and ogo limu as options for that real Hawaiian taste, as can be seen on this menu board. I understand that they're no longer available. Fish Face shares common ownership with sushi specialist, Kru, and the seafood quality is a cut above the leftovers used at too many other mainland poke bars.
I went with the poke of the day, Ahi Tuna and Shrimp with Ogo. Poke is assembled to order and there's opportunity to direct the proportions and add extras. I paid the buck supplement to add kukui nut to my bowl.
Guess they want me to get my money's worth, this is a crazy amount of kukui nut on top. In any case, very fresh, well-trimmed fish, great flavor complexity and not too salty. This is the best poke I've had outside the Islands.
