two finds in Chatham MA

Just back from Labor Day weekend in Chatham on the Cape. Ended up steaming lobsters at the cottage and dining up in Truro (Terra Luna, very nice), so didn't get to check out the great restaurant recommendations in town.

However, I did find two gems not mentioned on the board: Chatham Jams & Jellies and Marian's Pies, both on Rte 28 going towards South Chatham. CJ&J: Tried the Maine wild blueberry jam, the beach plum jelly, lavender-apple, etc. Free tastes of everything. Jars are small, medium or large and range from about $4 to $10. Very high quality, made on the premises in small batches.

Clam pie is an old Cape favorite and I was overjoyed to find it again after many, many years. The peach-blackberry pie for dessert was incredibly fresh and ripe, bursting with the taste of summer. They made 22 varieties of pie on Sunday morning. Unbeatable crust. Pies come in small (6") and large (9 or 10"?) -- small would feed two people generously.

Chatham Lobster and Fish Market was another find -- very clean, many choices. Lobsters were scrumptious.
