Anyone know where to find Vegan Peanut Butter Cups?

geekluve | Sep 3, 2011 01:51 AM

Like the title says does anyone know where I might be able to find such a specific candy? I'm planning on using them in cake for an upcoming birthday. The recipe itself actually names the brand Reese in the recipe unfortunately I highly doubt they're vegan.

A quick google search mostly yielded recipes for the vegan treats. That was always an obvious route it just seems a bit tedious to make the equivalent of three bags worth of mini peanut butter cups only to chop them up and throw them in a cake batter. It's the same reason I haven't made a filbert gateau or an opera cake all that praline making/grinding only to toss it into a butter cream just seems a bit much.

Of course i did find some pre-made vegan versions of the candies unfortunately they were $13 for 7 pieces or $55 for a box off some random site... Yes, I also think it's ridiculous to purchase $50+ worth of candy only to chop it up and throw into a cake.

So as stated before any and all help in finding some of these little vegan treats would be much appreciated as I would really like to make this awesome cake. I know that Trader Joe's sells clear plastic boxes of peanut butter cups, they're at the very least a quarter the size of a min reese's peanut butter cup, some are even dark chocolate. But like the Reese brand I'm not sure on their status as a vegan candy.

Again thanks in advanced for the help everyone.
