Where can I find Shanghai soup dumplings?

Stanleyaah | Mar 17, 2004 11:59 AM

While in New York City last spring, I was treated to soup dumplings at Joe Shanghai (or Shanghai Joe's) They look like a beggar's purse but inside is a delicious broth surrounding a crab and pork dumpling. You poke them open a bit, then pour in Chinese black vinegar. I am drooling thinking about them... I orderd them at Peony in Oakland hoping the description on the menu was true, but alas alak, they were crummy dumplings in thin wonton skins floating in MSG laden tasteless broth.

Does anyone know where I can find these in the bay area? Or even LA? I would be forever grateful...
