Find the "quiet" model of Kitchenaid mixer

Skip2 | Dec 13, 202008:41 AM     2

I have a 30--year-old KSM5 mixer. It is a tank, one of the ones manufacturers right after Hobart sold to Whirlpool but beef Whirlpool started to cheapen them. Mine has a nice, comfortable sound it it. I am getting my granddaughter into baking/cooking and got her an older "Pro"? model that is a absolutely bag of noisy bolts -- grating, noisy. Yes, I've torn it down and degreased and checked all gears for wear -- all good). The gearing mechanism is clearly different than mine. Hers is so annoyingly loud for their small kitchen she is starting to lose heart in using it. I want to get her a (used only) one like mine. Is KSM5 enough of a model # to be sure, or did they carry that model # into their new, cheaper versions?

Thanks for any clarity on this. I am very likely going to have to buy on eBay or elsewhere so will not have a chance to turn it on and hear it before buying. As long as it is comparable to mine, I can do any repair or maintenance as needed.
