Where to find good cider?

Chris VR | Oct 17, 200201:04 PM     10

Where do you go for good cider in the Boston area (especially north of Boston), both from a supermarket and from an orchard?

I tried the 2 brands Wild Oats has, Naked and ...something or other and both were blech- glorified apple juice.

I picked up a half gallon of cider last weekend at Brooksby Farm in Peabody last weekend and this stuff was YUMMY. Thick and opaque. Not too inconventient up there behind the North Shore Mall, when I'm in the area.

I know Russell Orchards in Ipswich has cider but I believe last time I was there it was all unpasteurized... good for my normal preferences but no good these days with the little parasite inside. 2 more months and it's back to rare steaks, sushi, raw milk cheese and unpasteurized cider, but for now, I need the tamer stuff. Plus Ipswich is a bit of a hike for me.

Anyway, hoping to hear where good cider can be found without a trip to the orchard, but if the trip is what's required then that's what I'll do.

I also wonder why I never see cider on restaurant menus this time of year!
