I have made no secret about my affection for Savoy Inn pizza. But after hearing all of the talk about Punch I finally decided to try it and I must say, that was a damn good pizza! I had the Palermo (spicy salami, olives, oregano and dried tomatoes) and it was fantastic. The flavors were well balanced and the size left me pleasantly full. If I were to have one complaint it would be that the crust was slightly burnt in a few spots and this detracted from the overall experience, but not overwhelmingly so. Most pizzas on the menu are in the $10 range and are intended for one person. I also have to say I was a little surprised that they served their wine in a water glass.
I now understand why people who prefer this type of pizza might not like the Savoy, Grandpa Tony's, Romolo's... It's a completely different pizza all together (which I have argued vociferously in the past). However, I still believe that comparing a place like Punch to the Savoy is like comparing ice cream and custard. Not better or worse just different.
Bottom line: I'd go back.
