was a 30 min easy drive from the near downtown area. Arrived at 1055a and expected to see an unruly crowd but the 30 or so that had gathered were quite well behaved. As the sign says, you pick your number and wait to fall in line when the door open for business. The door opened and everyone discarded the number set and moved toward the front of the line. I found myself behind 6 or 7 other customers. Since I didn't know what to expect or when I might return I decided on purchasing a lb ea of sliced brisket and turkey w/sides, to go and grab a chopped sandwich to eat there. The sandwich was good, nice firm outer ring of the bun and soft middle. Held the beef between the slices, nicely. The brisket had the usual smoked flavor that last on the palate long after the meal, tender. Three BBQ sauces are avail,,, sweet, tangy (mustard flavored and not spicy at all) and coffee. The jury is out until I try the turkey and sliced brisket later tonight but my initial impression of Killen's is, what's all the fuss about? The brisket is good, not memorable. Certainly, Franklin's in Austin remains supreme IMHO. In fact, I'd be more inclined to run to Gatlin's in the Heights and put up with the slow service before returning to Pearland.
