Figs, fresh vs. dried

I want to make the recipe that I found on this site for Fig and Walnut Tapenade with Goat Cheese, (sorry for not noting the name of the poster of this recipe). I have not used figs much, and in fact have only recently tasted figs that another Chowhound, Gayla, brought to a Chowhound BBQ. She had reconstituted them in wine, and they were delicious. My question is, are you able to substitute fresh figs for dried figs, and does it make much difference what type of dried figs you use? Thanks for your help...Dawn
