Just back home from our summer vacation, had to post a short report on One Fifty Four in Petaluma.
Located in the centre of town in what was obviously a shop in a previous life, the room is decorated in the modern minimalist style, but is airy and pleasant. At present they do not have a licence for spirits, so its beer or wine only.
Food is contempory Californian with a strong Bistro style influence. The chef/proprietor sources fresh ingreients locally and the menu changes daily, so I will not try to describe any individual dish. Mrs Pirate and I each had three courses and they were all well executed and nicely presented.
Service, on a busy Saturday evening, was friendly and professional. With a glass of red and a glass of white each, coffee for Mrs P and a dessert wine for myself the total bill, with tip, came to $100; which I regarded as "having a result". One to add to your black notebook for when you are in Petaluma.
As a PS, we stayed in the Petaluma Sheraton, which is situated about a mile east of town. It is one of the nicest 3* properties we have ever stayed in, almost 4*, and makes a good budget option as a base for touring Sonoma side of wine country.
