Hole in the wall Mexican place. We've been twice in the last two weeks. The prices are very reasonable (the most expensive thing on the menu is 7.95), and the food is invariably excellent, though the chipotle-based salsa that comes with the (very fresh) chips can be a little hot for some. And this is how good the service is: when Father of Cookiemonster mentioned the heat of the salsa, Fidel himself (who does all the cooking in the open kitchen) pulled out a couple tomatoes, some cilantro and white onion, and put together a richly flavored, wonderful-with-everything, fairly mild-mannered salsa for him to enjoy.
This salsa, by the way, is amazingly good with chilaquiles, crema, and guacamole--a new standard.
They're connected with Mis Padres somehow, of Beverly Hills and Torrance Farmer's Market fame, and have the same standards of quality, many of the same dishes, and more variety. Get the black beans.
